We Made Our Own Deodorant

My girls and I had so much fun making our own deodorant this weekend that I wanted to share it.  First of all, it is easy to do.  Second of all, I feel like it could be used as an all over body deodorant or even a fragrance, but I don’t want to get too personal.  Lastly, I improved on the online recipe and wanted to share!

It all started with Pinterest – I found this photo of make your own deodorant and thought it looked like fun – here is a link to the pin

I followed the photo to this fabulous web site where the recipe can be found: http://www.onegoodthingbyjillee.com/2012/01/get-rid-of-armpit-stains-for-good-make.html#more

First we made the recipe using Tea Tree Oil and I have to say that I don’t love that smell …  The other problem was that we put it in a mason jar and put it in the fridge.  It quickly turned into the consistency of deodorant but was hard to use.

So, round two we made these modifications:

1.  We went to Whole Foods and found lavender oil and orange oil (my girls each picked their favorite);

2.  We then substituted the tea tree oil for one batch with lavender and one batch with orange oil;

3.  We spooned the concoction into popsicle molds and put that in the fridge;

4.  When we took the molds out, I set them in hot water for a few seconds and they slipped right out of the molds.

Note:  if you then keep them in the fridge, they will stay in that form, but if you leave them out, they turn to a softer substance because of the coconut oil.

Have fun!

    Looks pretty cool! I dislike tea tree scent as well, but I bet the lavender and orange are awesome.

    I saw your comment on OneGoodThingbyJillee blog. I love the idea of using essential oils in the recipe and will try the orange scent, too. How VERY CLEVER to use the popsicle molds! It will make the application process so much easier!
